On Monday 4th April 2016, the very excited students at Glen Dhu Primary School in South Launceston surrounded their school oval to await a visit from Westpac Rescue Helicopter Tasmania.
As their Principal Mario Bergamin stated "It’s not every day you have a helicopter land in your back yard."
After landing the crew were put through a very tough question and answer session from the students and every member of the school had the opportunity to walk through the helicopter, some even lucky enough to sit in the Pilot seat.
The visit was part of the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Schools Program which is a national primary school initiative that delivers fun, free curriculum aligned resources designed to provide teachers, students and parents with information about this iconic community service around Australia. This year sees the program having introduced new in-class materials and educational resources for teachers and students as the program has been dramatically expanded since 2014.
